Design Clinic 18 - Introducing Metallics and Colourful Lighting for Young and Old

I want to add some metallic’s to my home but want to avoid shiny modern pieces and don’t want to go over the top?

Charlotte Pretty, Brighton

Emma says: ‘The easiest way for you to introduce any theme into your home without it looking over the top is to keep the biggest proportions of a room (walls and floor) neutral and let your accessories and furniture to do the talking. Metallic’s bring a luxurious feel to any room.  We have a range of different styles in store including Moroccan inspired silver furniture and our French style Versailles range. Why not add our gold leaf bedside table (£249) next to your sofa or as a telephone table in the hallway. There is a great range of items to match. Or for a more subtle use of metallic’s, we sell a beautiful range of photo frames (from £12), lettering (£15) and wallpaper (£30).

I’m looking for some colourful light fittings for my children’s bedrooms but want to avoid any with cartoon characters and such like?

Julie Heskett, Hove

Nick says: ‘With all the rain we’ve been having lately – we all need a little colour in the house! We stock a great range of shades, pendant lights and chandeliers bursting with colour. One of my favourite styles is our Capiz Shell Pendants for £60 – in these three bright tropical colours they add a more modern feel to the traditional white and pastel shades these style of lights usually come in. They will instantly brighten up your children’s bedrooms without looking tacky or childish.’
